Shaded Spaces is a locally owned outdoor shade company serving Sioux Falls and surrounding communities within a 50-mile radius. Owner Rod Lantis started the business after helping a family member with awning and sunscreen installations in Montana. After moving to Sioux Falls, Rod noticed a real need for quality outdoor shade solutions in the Southeast South Dakota area.

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A RETRACTABLE AND FIXED AWNING?

    A retractable awning extends when you want shade and retracts when you want sun or exposure. This gives you flexibility to enjoy your outdoor space under changing conditions. Retractable awnings can project to various positions up to 14’ 8”.

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO INSTALL MY SHADE SYSTEM?

    After your design is finalized and ordered, typical delivery is 4-6 weeks. Installation is set up for a 2-4 hour time block depending on the product and quantity of items ordered. Timing may vary slightly depending on unforeseen circumstances.

  • DO I NEED TO BE HOME FOR MEASUREMENTS AND INSTALLATION?

    It’s best if a decision-maker is present during consultation and installation so measurements are accurate and you can review key features and operation.

  • CAN SCREENS OR AWNINGS BE INSTALLED ON ANY HOME SURFACE?

    Yes, in the vast majority of cases. Our installers work with a wide range of exterior surfaces including siding, brick and stucco. We ensure a secure, professional fit regardless of wall type.

  • IS MOTORIZATION WORTH IT?

    The overwhelming majority of customers prefer motorized awnings for ease of use and convenience, versus using a hand crank, especially in the rain. Remote motorized systems allow you to set programmed stop points, so all you have to do is press a button and forget about it while your awning or sunscreen extends. You also have the option to stop it at any point during the projection of your awning or sunscreen.

  • HOW DO I CARE FOR MY AWNING OR SCREEN?

    Routine maintenance is simple. Extend your awning or sunscreen and gently rinse the fabric with mild soap and water as needed and allow it to air dry. Keep mechanical parts clear of debris. Your installer can provide care tips specific to your product.

  • WHAT IF I HAVE AN ISSUE AFTER INSTALLATION?

    Because we are your local dealer, we stand behind our work, and Sunesta backs their products with strong warranty coverage. Contact us and we’ll help resolve any questions or service needs.

  • HOW MUCH DOES THE AVERAGE AWNING OR SCREEN COST?

    Because every Sunesta product is custom built to exact specifications, fabric selection and customization options, making it unique to your home, it is impossible to give an average cost.

  • HOW LONG DO CONSULTATIONS TAKE?

    Most consultations average about one hour. This allows time to review your outdoor space, discuss shade goals, take measurements, and explore fabrics and features unique to your home and style.

  • WHO WILL INSTALL MY NEW AWNING OR SCREEN?

    Your awning or screen will be installed by a trained local installation team. Shaded Spaces manages the entire process from consultation through installation to ensure quality workmanship and long-term performance.

  • IS INSTALLATION CHARGED SEPARATELY?

    No, we do not charge for installation.

  • CAN I INSTALL MY OWN AWNING OR SCREEN?

    Sunesta products must be installed by a Sunesta professional in order to be covered by our warranty.

  • DO YOU CARRY STANDARD PARTS?

    No. Because all awnings and screens are custom-made, most components are built to order. Replacement parts are available through Sunesta when needed to ensure proper fit and continued performance.

  • WILL YOU CLEAN MY AWNING OR SCREEN?

    Routine cleaning is the responsibility of the homeowner or business owner. We can provide care and maintenance guidance to help you keep your awning or screen looking and functioning its best over time.
